Apple has filed a legal petition against India's amended competition laws, which allow the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to impose fines based on a company's global turnover rather than local revenue. The tech giant argues the regulation is unconstitutional and disproportionately punitive.

The 2023 amendment to India's Competition Act permits penalties up to 10% of worldwide revenues when domestic turnover figures are deemed insufficient. Apple contends the CCI oversteps its jurisdiction by claiming authority over earnings beyond Indian borders, particularly when alleged violations concern only local operations.

In its 545-page filing, Apple describes the provision as arbitrary and unjust. The case highlights growing tensions between multinational corporations and emerging markets implementing aggressive regulatory frameworks. While the dispute centers on traditional tech, such jurisdictional battles could eventually influence how crypto exchanges face cross-border enforcement actions.
